The story
I got tired of finding out
from the client
I'm Adam. I spent fifteen years building and looking after other people's websites, and Sentinel is the monitoring I always wished I had: the tool that calls me before the client does.
Who's behind it

Adam Balée
Founder & developer
Hi, I'm Adam. I build Sentinel.
I've been making websites since the late 1990s, back when a bad GeoCities page passed for a portfolio. Fifteen years and a lot of WordPress later, after freelancing and then agency work, I'd built themes, plugins, and full custom apps for clients all over the country.
The same thing kept happening the whole time: a client would email to say their site was down, and they knew before I did. Every monitoring tool I tried missed in its own way. One took a weekend to set up. One cried wolf until I muted the channel. One priced monitoring like I had an ops team and a budget to match. I had neither, just a lot of client sites and my own name on the line.
So I built the tool I actually wanted: powerful enough to trust, quiet enough to leave running, and honest about what it costs. Sentinel is part of Rootstuff, the small studio I run from West Chester, Pennsylvania, which still ships client work. That is exactly why Sentinel keeps its opinions about what a real workday looks like.
One person builds this, on purpose. When you email support, you get me.

Our journey
How it got here.
Founded
I started building Sentinel from a simple idea: monitoring should be easy for anyone managing lots of sites, not just teams with a dedicated ops person.
Early access
I worked with agencies and freelancers to shape it around real workflows: many clients, many sites, one person on call.
Launch
Launched Sentinel to help small agencies and freelance developers stay ahead of client downtime.
Growing
Still shipping from your feedback, with a focus on speed, clarity, and getting out of your way.
What I believe
The principles I build on
Reliability first
A monitoring tool that goes down is worse than no monitoring tool. Redundant infrastructure, and checks that run from four regions so one bad network path can't cry wolf.
Answers, not noise
An alert should tell you what broke, where, and for how long. Multi-region consensus before you get paged, because waking someone up for a blip is how teams learn to ignore alerts.
Priced without games
Clear plans, no per-seat surprises, no enterprise call to see a number. The free plan is genuinely free and does not ask for a card.
Built in the open
Public docs, a real API, an MCP server, and a changelog. Your monitoring data is yours, and you can get it out however you like.
