Team Management
Invite the people you work with into your account so they can see the same monitors you do. Each person gets their own login and their own notification settings, and the role you give them decides what they are allowed to change.
Team features are included on the Pro and Business plans. The plan belongs to whoever owns the team, and everyone in it works with that plan's features. A teammate does not need a paid account of their own.
Team Roles
There are four levels of access. Everyone can see every monitor in the team; roles only control what can be changed.
Owner
The person who created the team. There is exactly one, and it cannot be transferred from inside the app.
- Everything an Administrator can do
- Holds the subscription and manages billing
- The only role that can delete the team
Administrator
Your senior people. Give this to anyone you trust to run the account day to day.
- Add, edit, pause and delete monitors
- Create and edit status pages, groups and tags
- Open, update and close incidents
- Invite teammates, change their roles and remove them
- Rename the team
Editor
Your working members. They can set things up but cannot tear anything down.
- Add and edit monitors, status pages, groups and tags
- Open and update incidents
- Cannot delete monitors or incidents
- Cannot invite or remove teammates
Viewer
Read-only. Useful for a contractor, a junior, or anyone who needs visibility without the ability to break something.
- See every monitor, incident and status page in the team
- Receive alerts, with their own notification preferences
- Cannot change anything at all
Adding Team Members
- Open Team Settings from the account menu
- Under "Add Team Member", enter their email address
- Choose a role
- Send the invitation
They will get an email with a link to join. If they do not already have an account they will be asked to create one first, using the same email address the invitation was sent to. Pending invitations are listed on the same screen and can be cancelled at any time.
Once someone has joined, they choose how they want to be alerted from their own profile. Notification settings belong to each person, not to the role, so there is nothing to configure on your side when you invite them.
Changing or Removing Access
- Change someone's role from Team Settings at any time; it takes effect immediately
- Demoting someone to Viewer removes their ability to edit, including monitors they created
- Removing a member revokes their access straight away, and the monitors they added stay with the team
- The owner cannot be removed, and cannot leave their own team
Team Notifications
Everyone in the team is alerted about every monitor in it, according to each person's own notification preferences. There is currently no way to route alerts to a subset of the team, and no on-call rotation or escalation. If you want different people alerted about different things, use a separate team for each set.
Teams and Plans
- Pro includes one team with up to five members
- Business includes unlimited teams and members
- Your personal team does not count towards the limit
- Monitors count against the team owner's plan, wherever in the team they were added
Best Practices
- Give the lowest role that lets someone do their job; Viewer is a real option
- Make at least one other person an Administrator so you are not the only one who can invite or remove
- Review who has access when a project or a contract ends
- Ask everyone to turn on two-factor authentication from their profile
